The Opportunity

We are looking for a Junior AI Software Engineer to join our growing AI team, reporting directly to the Senior AI Software Engineer. This is a full-time freelance role within a two-person technical team, offering close mentorship, hands-on learning, and real ownership from day one.

You’ll work with proprietary data to help build the next generation of wellness tools-from customer-facing mobile and web applications to internal AI agents that streamline operations and personalise experiences. Your work will directly support our mission to help people master their minds and improve their mental wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

🤖 AI & Automation Development
Build AI agents and automations using Python and modern LLM frameworks

Support internal workflows, marketing personalisation, and operational efficiency

Assist in leveraging proprietary data to deliver personalised user experiences

📱 Application Development
Develop mobile and web applications using JavaScript frameworks and native code

Integrate AI models into customer-facing tools used by students and therapy clients

🧩 API & Backend Support
Build and maintain APIs that connect AI models, data, and front-end applications

Support secure data flows across systems and platforms

☁️ Collaboration & Growth
Work closely with the Senior AI Software Engineer in a small, focused team

Learn best practices in AI, software architecture, and secure development

Follow guidance on data privacy, security, and compliance (GDPR/HIPAA)

Skills & Experience

Hands-on experience with JavaScript and Python (through roles, internships, or personal projects)

Experience building functional applications or scripts

Strong interest in AI, Large Language Models, and intelligent agents

Comfortable working in a fast-paced, learning-focused environment

Understanding of the importance of data privacy and security

Reliable remote working setup and availability during South Africa business hours

Nice to Have (Bonus Experience)

Experience working with LangChain or OpenAI APIs

Familiarity with React Native or similar JavaScript frameworks

Experience deploying or supporting applications on Microsoft Azure

Exposure to healthcare, wellness, or sensitive data environments
